Literacy Mentoring
Mentor and mentee on an outing at the Minnesota Center for the Book Arts.

**Our mentoring positions are open and mentors will be matched with students virtually when possible. While mentors will begin volunteering virtually, we plan to transition mentors to in-person service as soon as it is safe to do so. In order to facilitate this, prospective volunteers should be residents of Minnesota.**

Passage Community is a 17-unit apartment building near the Minneapolis Institute of Arts serving families that have experienced homelessness.

Families living at Passage Community have an affordable apartment and staff support to help them achieve stability.

Passage Community has a high-quality and rigorous after school literacy tutoring program for Kindergarten to 6th-grade students. Tutoring occurs Monday through Thursday from 5:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Tutors commit to volunteering one day per week from October 2019 through May 2020. Currently, the biggest need for tutors is on Thursday.

Our goal is for each child to work up to grade-level reading. 75% of children who are homeless are below grade level and we know that if the learning gap does not diminish the children will continue to struggle academically.
