About

Since 1977, WPFW 89.3 FM has been providing Washington DC with commercial free world class music and programming. One of five Pacifica stations, we are dedicated to creating a "pacific world in our time." We believe strongly in the full distribution of public information and in providing an outlet for the creative skills and energies of the community. Primarily listener supported, we have a small staff, and for the most part our shows are broadcast by volunteers. WPFW is looking for an intern to work with its Public Affairs Department. The intern will work directly with the Public Affairs Director conducting research, booking guests, maintaining archives/podcasts, updating social networking platforms, as well as other duties as assigned. ------------------------------------------------------ ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct research, book guests, pull news copy. and update social networking accounts. Update audio podcasts with summaries of programs. Assist with other duties as needed. ------------------------------------------------------ TIME COMMITMENT Winter Internships begin in February 1. Interns for the Public Affairs Department should be available no less then three days a week. Hours are flexible, but WPFW's Public affairs programming are mostly produced in the morning, so interns who can start at 9am will have the best experience. ---------------------------------------------------- QUALIFICATIONS: All WPFW interns must be enrolled in college, or else a recent college graduate. They must work well with others, be self starting, quick to learn, and support WPFW’s goals and mission. Interns with the Public Affairs Department should be punctual and detail- oriented. They should also have excellent people and written skills. Basic knowledge of social networking & digital editing is a plus. Students with an interest in communications and/or radio are encouraged to apply. This is a good internship for younger college students who are still learning about the field. All station internships are unpaid. --------------------------------------------------- TO APPLY: Please submit a resume, a cover letter indicating why you are interested in interning at WPFW, and the names and contact information for 2 references to WPFW’s Volunteer Coordinator by COB, January 22. Please note that .docx files should be sent as PDFs.
