The Denver Hospice, founded in 1978, is the region's leading, largest and most trusted nonprofit provider of life-enhancing hospice and palliative care. That means we offer more expertise, more resources and a more complete continuum of compassionate care to patients facing life-limiting illnesses and end-of-life transition. That means our patients and their families get more from life. Our skilled teams are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and care for patients wherever they reside - in their own homes, skilled-care facilities, hospitals or at our own Inpatient Care Center at Lowry. Headquartered in metro Denver, we support patients and families throughout nine Colorado counties - from Boulder to Castle Rock and from Golden to Bennett.

Volunteers are important members of our circle of care and we truly value and support our volunteers! We offer volunteer opportunities in both clinical (working directly with patients and families) and non-clinical (administrative support) roles. We require volunteers to be at least 18 years old and able to provide their own transportation. We expect a commitment of at least 1 year, volunteering 2-3 times per month. We prohibit volunteers from promoting products or services to our patients and families and we are unable to support community service hours.

Please contact our Volunteer Engagement Department at 303-228-5610 or volunteers@care4denver.org to apply. Application, interview and training required for clinical and office support volunteers.

Description

The Denver Hospice provides high-quality hospice and palliative care services for patients with advanced illnesses and injuries. Headquartered in metropolitan Denver area, we support patients and families throughout nine Colorado counties. The heart of this specialized care is the belief that every individual has the right to die pain-free and with dignity. To help ensure that outcome, The Denver Hospice care model brings together a team of skilled professionals - experts in medicine, nursing, pain management, integrative therapies and psychological and spiritual support - to provide care customized to each individual’s needs and wishes. The patient’s loved ones receive support as well.

We are a not-for-profit organization. Our mission-driven commitment puts patients above profit and translates to more time, attention and experts dedicated to every person who needs our services, wherever and whenever they need us. In 1978, our founders, Carolyn Jaffe, RN and Peter Van Arsdale, PhD, recognized the need for comprehensive, expert and collaborative care for those facing aging, serious illness and grief. They assisted us in securing initial funding and laying the ground work for us to become what we are today - a nationally-recognized, best-practice model. Our personalized care supports mind, body and spirit, giving our patients and their families control over their lives with dignity, joy and unparalleled experience and support.
