Docents are a part of our Education & Interpretation department and lead visitors, school groups, senior and corporate group tours through the Detroit Historical Museum and/or the Dossin Great Lakes Museum. This is the perfect opportunity for those who love working with children and enjoy public speaking.

During training, prospective Docents study our tour guide manual after shadowing tours in order to learn technique and acquaint themselves with our exhibit materials.

Once training has been successfully completed, Docents must be willing to lead at least one tour per week (approximately 2 hours each) during the school year; with availability to conduct tours throughout the summer. Tours are scheduled on weekday mornings and afternoons.

We are currently accepting applications for Summer Docents (with availability throughout the school year); there will be training sessions hosted in the Spring!!
