About

Program pairs caring Listeners one-on-one with elementary school students (in 65+ schools in Broward). Listeners are positive role models and non-judgmental friends who develop unique relationships with students. Their goal is to improve children’s self-esteem and communication skills and enhance their problem-solving and decision-making skills. Listeners engage each child in play and conversation once/week during school hours at the same time for 30 minutes (usually 3 - 4 students). Due to confidentiality, parents and grandparents cannot volunteer at the school where their relatives attend. Program requires 2-day training (8:30am to 3:00pm both days) through MHASEFL and background clearance through the School Board. Participating schools are located county-wide.
