ORGANIZATION: Mental Health America of Southeast Florida

  • 300 people are interested

Program pairs caring Listeners one-on-one with elementary school students (in approximately 50 schools in Broward County). Listeners are positive role models and non-judgmental adult friends who develop unique relationships with students. Their goal is to improve children’s self-esteem and communication skills and enhance their problem-solving and decision-making skills. Listeners engage each child in play and conversation once/week during school hours at the same time for 30 minutes (usually 2 - 4 students). Program requires 2-day training (10:00am to 3:00pm both days) at MHASEFL office in Lauderhill. Volunteers must have Level 2 background clearance through the School Board. This opportunity is for responsible volunteers willing to make a WEEKLY COMMITMENT! In this program, children must have consistency. Volunteers send in signed monthly logs to verify hours.
