Children are so special that they have their own unique thumbprints. This self-esteem rogram teaches second grade students to respect themselves, respect others, and be responsible for their attitudes and actions. Volunteers interact with students to discuss the positive value of differences. Children learn to change negative thoughts to positive thoughts by participating in an activity called the "clothes game" in which "dirty" laundry with put-downs is washed and replaced with "clean" laundry with postive self-talk. A teacher remains in the classroom with the volunteer at all times. Program requires training through MHA and background clearance through the School Board. This opportunity is available during normal elementary school hours, typically between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Reliability and puctuality are essential. Volunteers must regularly submit signed logs of hours spent in classrooms.
