A self-esteem program for young children. It is presented primarily in kindergarten classes during regular school hours (8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.). Volunteers use a puppet that resembles a thumb to teach children that they are unique - so special, in fact, that their thumbprints are different from everyone elses's. The children participate in discussion about feelings, the importance of liking themselves, valuing their individual differences, and respecting differences in others. A craft activity follows. A teacher remains in the classroom with the volunteer at all times. Program requires training through the Mental Health Association and background clearance through the School Board.
