Dear Friends,

Since 1926, The Salvation Army of Broward County has financially relied on the donations given at our Red Kettles (aka Lil’ Red) that are strategically placed outside of major retailers and grocery chains during the Christmas season.

On average, Lil' Red brings in $375.00 during an 8-hour shift. This amount provides for 214 hot, nourishing meals per day for the hungry; or 24 beds for homeless men and women per night; or 30 bags of groceries distributed every Thursday to families; or 8 nights in a safe and structured transitional housing facility for families.

As our Kettle donations were down last year by 15% from our budget projection, we have already exhausted a large portion of our emergency funds to bridge the financial gap in FY 2017, and we now need the volunteer assistance from generous people in our community like you!

We have calculated that if we have 533 volunteer groups adopt Lil' Red, by volunteering for one, 8-hour day this upcoming Christmas, we can meet our campaign goal of $200,000, which will ensure that our present level of services will continue for those that will require assistance.

The sign-up process is quick and easy, but the benefits of benevolence and joy at Christmas will last for a lifetime.

Mission Statement

Each year more than 30 million people in the United States receive services provided by the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army serves all those in need regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation.

Description

If you would like to learn more about The Salvation Army, you have come to the right place.

Bells and red kettles. Thrift stores. The red shield. These are the most common images people have of The Salvation Army. But look behind the red shield and you will find that we offer a wide array of programs catering to the needs of children, families, the elderly and individuals.

The Salvation Army was founded by William Booth, a Methodist minister, in London in 1865 and provides services to people in over 100 countries around the world.

The basic social services developed by William Booth have remained an outward visible expression of the Army's strong religious principles. In addition, new programs that address contemporary needs have been established. Among these are disaster relief services, child care centers, summer camps, holiday assistance, services for the aging, AIDS education and residential services, medical facilities, shelters for battered women and children, family and career counseling, vocational training, correction services, and substance abuse rehabilitation. Each year, more than 30 million people receive services provided by The Salvation Army.
