Mission Statement

Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge"s (ECWR) mission is education, conservation & rehabilitation for the welfare of Florida’s natural fauna. Run by caring staff & dedicated volunteers, ECWR is a 501(c)3 non-profit with headquarters located on Okaloosa Island in Fort Walton Beach, FL. ECWR provides wildlife rescue, rehab & environmental outreach to 5 counties in Northwest Florida. The Refuge rescues thousands of animals a year working closely with local law enforcement, the Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission and the US Fish & Wildlife Service to protect, treat & release native species. The Refuge also is the lead response team for the Federal Marine Mammal Stranding Network assisting with all marine-mammal strandings from mid-Walton County to the Alabama state line.

Description

As a leader in conservation education for the Emerald Coast, we also offer educational programs for interested members of the community. The Refuge also partners with public and private schools to educate our youth on the importance of conserving our native species. As we head into the future, ECWR will continue to pursue the highest level of medical care, environmental education, & conservation efforts.
