A CASA is a trained community volunteer who acts as an advocate for the best interests of children who have experienced abuse or neglect and are involved in court proceedings. As a CASA you will conduct independent and objective investigation's of the child's situations and circumstances. This will consist of meeting with the child, the child's family and other important people in the child's life. A CASA will then make recommendation to the court that focuses on the best interest and well-being of the child.
To become a volunteer...
- Submit an application
- Interview with program staff
- Pass a background check
- Complete 30 hours of in-depth training
- Commit to 18 months with the program

The Walla Walla and Columbia County CASA program provides culturally sensitive, best interest advocacy to children within the court system who have experienced abuse or neglect.
Description
A CASA or Court Appointed special Advocate is a trained community volunteer who acts as an advocate for the best interests of children who have experienced abuse or neglect and are involved in court proceedings.
The goal for every child is to find a permanent, safe home as quickly as possible: that is often found in a return to parents, but sometimes it means adoption by family or others.
