ORGANIZATION: The Ojai Foundation

The Teaching Tree

We are currently looking for Dedicated Volunteers to assist our Land Team here at The Ojai Foundation. Looking specifically for volunteers interested in our Beauty Way and Land departments. Satisfaction depends on your attitude and intention, and growth comes from carrying out these tasks with a spirit of willing service.

All positions in our service departments can be physically strenuous at times, and we require you to be of sound physical and mental health. Individuals with health challenges are encouraged to contact us to discuss possible volunteer placements before applying.

All volunteers offer an average of 25 hours per week in a designated area.

  • The Beauty Way team takes care of preparing and beautifying the guest accommodation (domes and yurts), shrines, sacred and ceremonial spots, and the shared gathering spaces.
  • The Land Team helps to keep the grounds fruitful and beautiful. These volunteers are involved in maintaining existing landscape according to permaculture principles, removing dead brush and trees, tending to and propagating new plant materials, and collecting and hauling rubbish, recycling and making compost.

Mission Statement

The Ojai Foundation is a center for education, renewal, and the honoring of life's many passages. Our vision and activities have been coupled with a firm commitment to environmental awareness and living close to the land.

Description

TOF is a non-profit organization located on a 40-acre ridge of semi-wilderness land at the foot of the majestic Los Padres Mountains in Southern California. We offer ways to know the earth more intimately and support people searching for a new and expanded vision for their lives. Through our programs both on and off the land, we also assist a diverse array of business, service, educational, and community groups. The practice of council is the core of the Foundation's programs and its work in the world. It is the major component of our youth and adult outreach to schools and businesses and is utilized by the Foundation staff and community regularly, both personally and professionally. We offer rustic accommodation [yurts and domes] for up to 25 people. The Foundation's year-round staff is comprised of 10 individuals who develop programs and trainings, serve as faculty, oversee the stewardship and the development of the land, and carry out our business and fund-raising activities.
