Educating public about colony of harbor seals at Goat Rock State Beach during pupping season (March thru Labor Day). Interact with beachgoers from around the world and teach them about the life cycle or the harbor seals by viewing through a scope and binoculars. Some heavy lifting involved but not very often, with a 15 minute walk on the beach required to get to the mouth of the Russian River in Jenner. Commitment: There are two 4 hour shifts every Saturday and Sunday. Attend the organized training in February, exact dates are can be found at stewardscr.org.

In addition to serving in beautiful Western Sonoma County, volunteers who submit:

  • Volunteer 24 hours or more to receive an annual free Day Use Pass for all State Parks in the Sonoma-Mendocino Coast District
  • Volunteer 200 hours or more to receive an annual free Day Use Pass for all California State Parks

Description

Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods is an environmental non-profit that works in partnership with California State Parks in the Russian River Sector of the Sonoma Mendocino Coast District to provide public and school education, stewardship, and citizen science programs. We also help operate Austin Creek State Recreation Area; maintain and revitilize State Park visitors centers and historic sties, including Pond Farm Pottery; acquire and restore natural habitats on park lands; and support vital advocacy efforts.
