Shelf Stewards help make Livermore Public Library collections accessible to the public for browsing and information discovery. Shelf Stewards check to see if library materials are shelved correctly and move library materials to accommodate changes in the collection.

Shelf Stewards may either adopt a section of the library and assume responsibility for maintaining it on a regular basis, or assist with maintaining shelves on an as-needed basis.

Key Responsibilities:

• Systematically check shelves for correct Dewey Decimal order
• Move library materials as needed to alleviate crowding on library shelves and accommodate changes in library collections
• Refer patron requests or questions to appropriate library staff person
• Complete work neatly and accurately, and with a minimum of distraction to library users

By maintaining order in the library collections, Volunteer Shelf Stewards ensure library users have a positive experience at the Livermore Public Library.
