Refugee Transitions is looking for committed and culturally sensitive volunteers to become Tutors for refugee, immigrant, and asylee newcomers. Tutors provide support to newcomer families and play a critical role in helping the agency service its mission. Volunteering with Refugee Transitions is a great way to help your community and have a real impact on the lives of others. As a Tutor, you have the option of working with clients in either our adult or youth program. ESL Civics Education and Orientation Program: This program provides adult clients with home-based ESL instruction and civics education. Tutors help adult students acquire the language and literacy skills needed to engage more actively in their communities, and to access important civic institutions and public resources. Bridge 2-Success Youth Development Program: This program provides immigrant and refugee youth with the support they need to succeed academically, develop career readiness skills, form healthy attachments, and maintain supportive relationships with adults and peers. We match Tutors with refugee youth aged 6-18 for one-on-one tutoring and mentoring. Please find information about schedules, time commitment, all volunteer requirements, and more here: www.reftrans.org/apply. If you have additional questions, please visit our website at www.reftrans.org or feel free to give us a call at 415-989-2151. Thank you for your interest in supporting refugee and immigrant families. We look forward to hearing from you!
About Refugee Transitions
655 International Blvd, Suite 206, Oakland, CA 94606, US
Refugee Transitions is a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting refugee and immigrant families in becoming self-sufficient in the United States. We provide home-based services to help these families attain the English language, life, job and academic skills they need to succeed in their new communities. We currently offer our services in San Francisco, the East Bay, and the South Bay.
Refugee Transitions programs provide home-based ESL instruction and an introduction to American culture. Tutors receive extensive training and resources for this unique opportunity to teach ESL to refugees and immigrants in their home environment. Together students and tutors address the life skills which the students identify as most necessary. Tutors incorporate information about American culture and institutions into their lessons, helping students understand and adjust to a new way of life. Extensive information about volunteering (schedules, time commitment, all requirements, and more) and volunteer applications are available here: http://www.reftrans.org/apply.
