The Ronald McDonald Family Room at Kentucky Children's Hospital is in immediate need of mature, reliable and dedicated volunteers to help provide a "place to go when you can't go home" for critical care patient families who need a break from the stress of their child's medical care but are unable to leave the hospital.
Averaging nearly 2000 visitors per month, the Ronald McDonald Family Room is an oasis for families from the stress and chaos surrounding a child's medical care. Dozens of dedicated volunteers are needed to staff the room, which offers amenities such as McDonald's coffee, snacks, toys, puzzles, personal electronics and reading materials.
Volunteers must be 18 years or older and are asked to sign up for at least one three-hour shift per month for 12 consecutive months (though many volunteers like to work additional shifts).
This room relies entirely on monetary and "Wish list" donations. Volunteers play a vital role in maintaining the Room's welcoming atmosphere. The Ronald McDonald Family Room is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays from 9 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Trainings are held monthly and required health and drug screenings will be provided at no cost. All attached documentation must be completed and brought to the training session.
The Room is a partnership between Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Bluegrass and the Kentucky Children's Hospital.
