Medical Spanish Language Course
Looking to improve your Medical Spanish language skills? In our multi-cultural society these skills can be invaluable to a medical practitioner in the US, Europe or anywhere in Latin America.
If your conversational Medical Spanish isn’t good enough to impress your cadaver, we’ve got the perfect program for medical students and professionals who want healthcare experience abroad. It is a total immersion program in Ecuador that will give you an insight into issues in global health, traditional medicine, medical practice in resource poor communities, and thorough, targeted medical language study so you will be able to communicate effectively with patients and staff in your particular field of medicine. If you have existing Spanish speaking skills (especially those who are Independent user level B1 of CEFR) you will find this placement extremely rewarding. Beginners are also welcome as the course will be tailor made to meet their needs.
Medical Internship in Ecuador
This medical internship in Ecuador will give medical, biology and science students insights into issues in global health, traditional medicine and medical practice in a community for middle class Ecuadorians and poor indigenous communities. The hospital is based in the Andean region of Ecuador approximately 3 hours outside of Quito and serves a community of 500,00 people. In the poorer communities there are issues with nutrition and a lack of awareness of general health issues such as contraception, and the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. The hospital offers a range of services to the local community and departments include ER, x-ray, pharmacy, surgical, lab, cardio and obstetrics. The hospital also runs an ambulance service. Come to Ecuador and observe the local medical staff with their duties and extend your understanding of working in a culturally diverse setting whilst developing your Spanish speaking skills.
Rural Public Health Volunteering in Ecuador
If you are interested in community development join our rural public health volunteering in Ecuador focusing on indigenous people. Working with a local organisation this placement works with the indigenous communities of Riobamba, a city in the Andean region of Ecuador. The project runs community outreach and provides education on subjects such as avoiding teenage pregnancy, alcohol and drug addiction and nutrition. These are all common problems that exist in the communities of the indigenous population of this province. Access to healthcare and healthcare education is limited for these communities and the people live on very low incomes. The programme is headed up by a former hospital business manager who saw that there was a need to provide essential education to these communities while incorporating their traditional values and practices. On occasions, he obtains the support of local trained professionals to accompany him on his outreach clinics.

Mission Statement
Kaya's mission is to promote sustainable social, environmental and economic development, empower communities and cultivate educated, compassionate global citizens through responsible travel.
Description
Responsible travel is about seeing the world in a manner that most respects and benefits local people, culture and the environment - it's travel in the real world, not tourism.
Every year thousands of people travel the globe looking to explore new environment and experience different cultures, with a spirit of adventure and a desire to learn more about the world.
As global travel becomes more accessible, and we look to visit further and more exotic locations, we often discover that the real world is not always easy to uncover, and often visitors don't get a chance to see beyond the window that tourism can offer.
As a volunteer, you have the opportunity to become a real part of the environments, lives and communities of the world's developing nations. And whether you chose to work on projects that benefit the wildlife, the environment or the people, you come away knowing that your being there has positively impacted those you have visited.
At Kaya, we pride ourselves on delivering only what is best for our volunteers and best for the communities which we are working with. You will find many volunteer organizations to chose between today, and many of these are also offering great placements around the world. But we believe that no-one works closer with their volunteers and with the receiving communities on the ground to make sure everyone can achieve the greatest benefits that volunteering has to offer.
For those of you who have skills that can benefit the projects, and even if you are looking to develop your professional skills in a developing country, your help is invaluable and Kaya staff will work with you to ensure your role matches your skill.
Internships, group ventures and specialist projects can be arranged by request.
