Mission Statement
Deana's Educational Theater (DET) takes action to prevent dating violence and bullying through the power of live interactive theater. We are recognized as an innovative leader in developing and producing comprehensive educational programs for grades K-12, colleges, the military, and communities around the United States and abroad.
Description
Deana's Educational Theater uses live interactive presentations to educate audiences of all ages on important social issues such as dating violence, bullying, sexual assault and healthy relationships. Each program consists of a performance and a question and answer section. Using dramatic segments and direct audience interaction, each program is designed to create audience awareness first through a "right brain" emotional experience that generates personal recognition, then followed by a "left-brain" information and awareness experience by asking probing questions about the educational points that are artfully imbedded in the plays. By doing so our programs not only educate audiences about the reality of violence, the also invoke the same type of emotions that arise in these real life situations. Students are empowered to take a stand and to make a change in their schools and communities as they become educated on the warning signs of dating violence and bullying and the consequences for engaging the behavior.
