Samaritans is the oldest, largest suicide prevention organization in the world, with 400 Centers in 39 countries. Samaritans on Cape Cod and the Islands was founded by Monica Dickens, great-granddaughter of Charles Dickens. We have trained over 880 volunteers in the past 39 years, and answer thousands of calls each year on our hotlines. Our combined Crisis Line/Senior Outreach volunteer trainings are scheduled every odd-numbered month. We are involved in community education, support groups for those who have lost someone to suicide, and an outgoing call program for seniors. Call 508-548-7999 for more details. Make a difference in your life by helping others to find their lives worth living.

Mission Statement
The mission of The Samaritans is suicide prevention. A nonprofit organization with decades in volunteer public service and proven expertise in the field, The Samaritans provides support to people who are either contemplating suicide or who have been personally affected by suicide. Our focus is not solely on those people who are at imminent risk for suicide. Our goal is to provide pathways to healing for our whole community.
Description
We are a non-profit organization providing emotional support to those who are distressed, in crisis or suicidal through a non-judgmental, active listening approach called "befriending" with the goal of alleviating the person's despair, isolation and suicidal feelings. For volunteer opportunities or to inquire about our grief services program, please email us at griefservices@capesamaritans.org.
Our staff and volunteers answer calls on our hotlines 24/7/365 days a year. If you’re in crisis, need support, or are looking for a place to share with someone who will listen wholeheartedly, please don’t hesitate to reach out to any of the Crisis Lines listed below or visit our website at www.capesamaritans.org.
