In Snohomish County there are many children who, through no fault of their own are involved as central figures in court cases. These are cases of abuse and neglect.
If you become a Court Appointed Special Advocate in the Volunteer Guardian Ad Litem (CASA/VGAL) program it allows a child in that situation to be represented in their own case.
Training is provided and you will learn what it's like represent a minor in the courts. You interview all the principals in the case, sometimes including the child, and make a recommendation to the court as to a decision on the case.
You do not assume any financial, legal or custodial roles, You do not take the child in your home. You are their advocate in the justice system. You are assigned to one child at a time.
You must be able to make a committment of one year to this position as cases may last 6 months or longer.
NOTE- This opportunity is posted by RSVP, a federally funded program helping those over 55 years find a place to volunteer.
