Imagine watching your kitchen catch on fire and being unable to call for help because you don't speak English. Adults come to Washtenaw Literacy asking for English help so that they and their families can live safe lives. Become a one-on-one English tutor and help an adult get the English help he or she needs.
You don't need to speak a foreign language or have teaching experience. We provide a comprehensive, 15 hour-long training and match you with an adult who needs English help. The two of you will meet in a public place each week to work on English skills.
We ask volunteers to make a 12 month commitment as a tutor. It takes time for you and the learner to get to know one another and to make progress in English together.
