Area churches have been swamped by requests for help with food, utilities, and rent, due to job layoffs and closings. JESUS CARES was established as a unified response supported by 90 area churches of all denominations. In cooperation with LOAVES & FISHES, the local food bank also supported by churches, they counsel on ways to manage money wisely, find jobs, etc., while helping with current problems. They also have a Thrift Store full of donations where clients can get clothes, dishes, and other items with vouchers from DHS or purchase for very little, most items are $5 or less.

The mission of the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program of McNairy-Hardin-Hardeman-Chester Counties is to create and promote a spirit of understanding among all people for humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services through community involvement.

Make a Difference in Your Community!
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) provides opportunities for people 55 and over to make a difference in their community through volunteer service. RSVP volunteers contribute anywhere from a few to over forty hours a week, serving through schools, day care centers, police departments, hospitals and other nonprofit and public organizations to help meet critical community needs. RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers. RSVP matches the personal interests and skills of older Americans with opportunities to help solve community problems and offers supplemental insurance while on duty, and on-the-job training from the agency or organization where volunteers are placed.
