The Reading STARS (Students & Tutors Achieving Reading Success) tutoring program pairs older adult volunteers with elementary school students who need help to become better readers. Tutors must be age 50 or older, have a high school diploma or above, and commit to tutoring students throughout the school year. Tutoring will take place at the Hawaiian Gardens Library, 2 days each week for up to 3 hours each day (approx. 6 hours total each week) during the 2019-20 school year. There will be an day of initial training and follow-up training throughout the school year.
