About

Volunteers are needed to assist the North Hills Landscape Committee in working on public and school gardens, wildlife habitat garden, creek restoration, vegetation management and native plant restoration activities in Oakland. Volunteers might assist in activities such as planting, weeding, pruning, painting, mulching, clearing, supervising work. The North Hills Landscape Committee works on 6 public gardens in Oakland, and helps at several school gardens in Oakland. Among the public gardens are the Firestorm Memorial Garden, the Gateway Garden/Gateway Emergency Preparedness Exhibit Center, Frank Ogawa Firescape Garden at the North Oakland Sports Field, the Morcom Rose Garden, the Broadway Garden, and the Lakeview School front slope garden. We have also been working on Temescal Creek restoration and vegetation management efforts in the Highway 24 corridor in the Oakland hills. We also help with working at multiple Oakland park sites on planting and maintenance. There are also some opportunities periodically to help with community tree planting projects, as we are a local affiliated of the California ReLeaf grassroots tree planting network and have helped plant more than 1000 trees in Oakland. We could use help with supervising youth volunteers on Saturday and/or Sunday workday projects, where we often work with Probation Department high school student volunteers on service projects.
