Make a difference in the life of a child and create a long lasting "ripple" effect that carries forward through that child’s entire life. A good mentor can teach a student the soft skills of navigating through life and relationships simply by showing up for and building trust with that young person. However, only 1 in 3 young people have such a person in their life.
Engage your experiences to give back and guide future generations. JABA’s Friends in Schools Helping (FISH) Program is a partnership with local public schools to provide trained volunteer mentors to help meet the needs of a growing diverse student population.
As a JABA FISH Mentor, you serve 1 hour per week for at least one school year to support students one-on-one or in small groups. Serve as a positive role model and build self-esteem and motivation. FISH mentors are reliable, patient, flexible, understanding, and love children. We never have enough volunteers to meet all of the schools’ needs. Share your experience and shape the future.
