History of the "Soldiers Home"
Our group of Civil War Fashion historians

Opportunity to volunteer as a tour guide at the Dayton VA through American Veterans Heritage Center. This on-going opportunity requires you to learn about the history of the "Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers" now known as the Dayton VA Medical Center. The campus has been designated as a National Historic Site. Learn about the people of Dayton who worked to bring the "Soldiers Home" to Dayton, and the remaining historical buildings and areas on the Campus. Lead tours to share this information with groups or individuals who call us for tours. You will also be asked to record visitors and hand out surveys about the tour.

You will need to register with AVHC and with VA Voluntary Services.

Training is provided through materials and lecture.

The American Veterans Heritage Center, Inc. (AVHC), is a non-profit corporation with an exciting mission. We honor the accomplishments of veterans while preserving a priceless piece of national and local history--­the Soldiers Home located at the VA Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio. We invite you to take your place in history by helping us make this venture a success.

The scope of our activities include historic preservation projects, events, tours, and our annual festival, "Patriot Freedom Festival."
