The Painted Turtle seeks experienced registered nurses (RNs) who seek to make a difference in the lives of children with chronic and life-threatening illness. Nurses are needed to staff the spring and fall family weekends, as well as the week-long summer sessions in our medical facility, the "Well Shell". Nurses will be responsible for administering care related to the various medical condition groups served, including: liver transplant, arthritis and other rheumatic conditions, kidney disease and transplant, spina bifida, hemophilia, thalassemia, skeletal dysplasia, muscular dystrophy, inflammatory bowel disease, asthma, diabetes, severe burns and limb loss/limb abnormalities. Other responsibilities include: preparation and administration of routine scheduled medications and treatments to campers and staff, providing various levels of first aid, sharing in rotating acute care "Well Shell" coverage with physician support, assisting with data entry of camper health information, being involved in educating staff, serving as a resource for non-medical volunteer staff, and serving as a role model in regards to children's growth and development issues, health care, hygiene and ADL needs surrounding acute and chronic illness. In addition to the above RN volunteer positions, we are also in need of volunteer respiratory therapists, physical therapists, occupational therapists and social workers to help staff many of our camp sessions. Housing and meals are provided on site. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis until all volunteer positions are filled. Interested volunteers are encouraged to apply online ( www.thepaintedturtle.org ) or send a cover letter and CV/resume to the Well Shell at wellshell@thepaintedturtle.org.

Mission Statement
The mission of The Painted Turtle is to provide a year-round, life-changing environment and authentic camp experience for children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses. The Painted Turtle supports children’s medical needs, inspires them to reach beyond their illnesses, and provides care, education, and respite for their families. All campers and families attend completely free of charge. Campers at The Painted Turtle enjoy a fun, safe, and adaptive environment where all activities are designed to accommodate campers with medical concerns. At Camp, children are empowered to learn about their own medical care and are given the confidence to become more independent. Each session is grouped by similar diagnoses, where campers are surrounded by others who can understand their challenges. The community at Camp transcends the days that campers spend there, leading to friendships that create a feeling of inclusion and connection outside of Camp.
