Amachi Knoxville - "Who knows but what God has brought us through this child."
Knoxville Leadership Foundation's AMACHI Knoxville is a community-based, one-on-one mentoring program for the children of promise in Knoxville who have a parent in state or federal prison. There are over 4,000 children of prisoners facing difficult challenges, and without intervention, they are at risk of following their parents' path into prison.
Amachi, a national model of people of faith mentoring children of promise, was brought to Knoxville in 2004 by the Knoxville Leadership Foundation to provide children in our city with a different path by matching them with a loving, caring adult mentor that will help them reach their highest potential. Amachi Knoxville's mission is to assist children ages 4-17 in achieving their highest potential by engaging them in consistent and committed mentoring relationships.
We provide screened-and-trained mentors from the community to walk along side a child for one year doing fun activities that build trust, friendship, and self-confidence. Since 2004, Amachi Knoxville has matched over 600 kids with consistent and committed mentoring relationships.
