This is a very rewarding volunteer position and you will have direct client contact and impart hope to those we serve. Must be compassionate and caring.
This position plays a very essential role for the Second Chance Society. SCS assists homeless and struggling clients with essential items they need to obtain employment. But, that is just the beginning. The next step is to make sure that we stay in touch with the client to provide them with continued encouragement, and to determine the outcomes of the services Second Chance has provided. SCS Volunteers accomplish this by having periodic telephone discussions directly with the clients served, and in some cases with family members, case workers or employers who are involved with the client. Brief summary contact notes are entered into the client files by the volunteer. There is both challenge and reward in performing this important work.
All client calls and other activities for this position are accomplished at Second Chance Society office during normal business hours, M-F. Scheduling is very flexible.
The Second Chance Society is a well established 501(c)3 non-profit. It has just one paid employee, an Administrative Assistant, and is otherwise an all volunteer organization. SCS is a United Way of Broward Partner Agency and plays an integral role in the Continuum of Care for the Homeless in our community.

Mission Statement
To give a second chance to homeless and other struggling men and women by providing moral encouragement and removing material barriers to self-sufficiency.
Description
The Second Chance Society is an integral member of the Continuum of Care for the homeless and struggling in Broward County, Florida.
Through the SCS Hand Up Program, Second Chance assists such persons in ther quest to attain self-sufficiency by helping them to overcome material barriers to employment. This is accomplished by providing tools, uniforms, safety equipment, work clothes, licensure, medical exams or other goods or services that may be required of an employer as a precondition of employment. In cases of homeless or struggling individuals who are enrolled in vocational training leading to certification or competency in a viable trade, and who have no other resource to obtain textbooks and school supplies, Second Chance provides these. Clients are normally referred to Second Chance by partner agencies. Clients are never given money by Second Chance Society. Contact is maintained with Hand Up Program clients for at least a year after services are initially provided, and through these contacts SCS continues to provide clients with encouragement in their struggle to realize economic self-sufficiency.
