Child Advocate--Hendry County, FL

Do you have a love for children? Do you want to make a difference in the lives of those who have been abused, abandoned and neglected? By committing to 8-10 hours per month, you can make a substantial difference in the life of a child.
The Guardian ad Litem's (GAL) mission is to advocate for the child’s best interests. GAL volunteers, who are appointed by the Court to advocate - speak up - for the best interest of a child who has been abused, neglected or abandoned. Legal Education is not a requirement of being a GAL, having a heart for children is!
The GAL Volunteer is the ONLY constant a child may have, while in care. The courts try to close cases within a year. It doesn’t always happen. During that time, you can be the child’s friend, mentor and most importantly, their voice in court. We do ask that you commit for the length of the case.
Children who have a Guardian are:
- Do much better in school
- Are 50% less likely to return to foster care
- Have fewer placements
- Are more likley to be adopted
- Spend less time in foster care
- Received more needed services
