House Managers are responsible for Front-of-House before, during and after a performance. Everything in front of the stage is considered Front-of-House. This includes the auditorium and lobby area. The House Manager is required to arrive 75 minutes prior to curtain and stay until all patrons leave after the performance. This person will supervise the ushers, ticket takers and concession workers. The House Manager duties include unlocking the outer doors one hour prior to curtain and then locking them after intermission, checking the theatre for tidiness both before and after the show, checking with the Stage Manager to find out when to open the auditorium doors for seating, and being available for any seating problems. The House Manager will take tickets as the guests enter the theatre. After the production starts this person will sort, count and record the ticket stubs for the show. After the show, the House Manager is required to make sure all guests have left the theatre. This person is responsible for getting the concessions money and ticket stubs to the box office. House managers will be responsible for directing emergency assistance personnel and procedures. The House Manager is supported in all their duties by the Guests Services Manager, a Playhouse staff member. An initial training session in theatre and safety procedures is required by The Playhouse, as is annual update/informational meeting. Visit https://www.dmplayhouse.com for a current list of shows.
