Job Description

Are you passionate about improving financial management in the nonprofit sector? We want someone like you to join our Board of Directors. This role serves and ensure the fiscal health of our nonprofit, including overseeing the organization’s financial statements and assisting with development planning.

Board members are expected to prepare for and attend board meetings, where they actively engage in discussions and decision-making.

This is an unpaid, volunteer position. The time commitment is approximately 10 hours a month for a 2-3 year term, plus attending various marketing events in the community as a representative of the impoverished people of post-war Liberia and our local community in Northern California. Don’t know anything about post-war Liberia or poverty in America? We will train.

Desired Skills and Experience

Our ideal board member is an enthusiastic, smart, and dedicated professional, excited to share his or her expertise to help our nonprofit. You are eager to learn. You can bring a financial lens to our strategic planning. You have experience with financial management, such as budget development, grant reporting, Financial modeling, risk management, overseeing audits, tax reporting (Form 990), and asset management. Finally, you are passionate about our cause, committed to keeping abreast of new, relevant issues that may impact our nonprofit. Prior nonprofit board experience is not required.

The mission of Relief, Inc. is to improve the lives of the people all over the world more specifically Liberia, West Africa and local Communities in Northern California by mobilizing the International Community. Relief, Inc. will minister to the PHYSICAL, MENTAL, EMOTIONAL and SPIRITUAL needs of every MAN, WOMAN and CHILD in need of help. Our mission is focused on aggressively reaching our goals; however, this requires the generosity and assistance of many.

Description

Relief. Inc. is a Modesto based nonprofit founded by a Liberian woman, Phebe Dennis Fortt. Witnessing the 14 1/2 year civil war in Liberia from a distance, Mrs. Fortt has dedicated her life to improving the Liberian community and our local communities in Northern California.

The various phases of Relief Inc. include:

  1. Shipping books, school supplies yearly.
  2. Sponsoring Kids -In-School to get an education.
  3. Support Orphans-Through Art collaboration project
  4. Providing scholarships for women for college or vocational training, to establish self sufficiency.
  5. Shipping Medical supplies, Bed and mattresses to donate to hospitals.
  6. In addition to our Relief effort, we provide leadership and goal setting training to local high school and college students.
  7. We get volunteers involved in our charitable organization in ways that exposes them to things that they ordinarily would not experience until they are in the job market.
  8. We are known for our local Holidays food and toys giveaway as well as Valentine Healthy Basket for deserving school students.
