We need volunteers to prepare income tax returns for the year ending 12/31/2016 for low to medium income individuals and families.
Our service is free to the community in conjunction with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service.
Basic Income Tax training will be provided at our location on January 21, 2017 and January 28, 2017. All volunteers will be required to pass an IRS online volunteer knowledge test before you will be allowed to work at the site.
We are looking for volunteers that would be willing to work at least 4 of the 10 dates that our site will be open for business.
Our location is the Waukegan Community Church located at 1016 Grand Ave in Waukegan. Our site will open only on Saturday's from 10am to 2pm starting February 4th through April 8th, 2017.
The volunteers will utilize computer Tax software that is supplied by the Chicago IRS office and the tax returns will be filed electronically free of charge on behalf of the tax clients by the Chicago IRS office.

Volunteering in the community provides a satisfaction from helping people who otherwise are unable to get the tax breaks and benefits that are rightfully theirs, and cannot afford to pay to get the advice. Volunteering also brings a joy to the camaraderie of working with a group of really nice helpful people along with bridging the communication gap between tax payer and VITA volunteers.
Description
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) volunteers provide FREE Income Tax Preparation Assistance to low-Income, elderly, disabled and limited English speaking people. This year we will be offering our free service for 10 consecutive Saturdays, starting February 7 th through April 11 th.
