Organize professional programs for incoming visitors, create written schedule, select cultural programs and engage host families and escort/drivers

Organize multicultural community events (receptions, fundraisers)

Involve in international outreach and work with international visitors and establish and maintain connections in NW Ohio community.

Update databases

Assist in publications (newsletters, web-update, flyers etc)

Internet research on local resources and partners and funding sources

Some work has to be done at GLC office, others can be done from home or other virtual location with very flexible schedule.

Reliability is very important.

Driving a car is beneficial for those who will work with international visitors.

Mission Statement

The Great Lakes Consortium (GLC) is a collaborative effort of Bowling Green State University, The University of Toledo, Lourdes University, and WSOS Community Action Commission, INc. GLC is a program of WSOS, a nonprofit organization. Established in 1999 the mission of GLC is :"to initiate, seek support for, and coordinate international training and development efforts linking resourcs with needs in the world community."

Description

In 15 years GLC received 13 grants from the U.S. State Department and seven grants from USAID Community Connections Program, and two grants from the Open World Program for international exchange programs implemented in NW Ohio with countries around the world (Afghanistan, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Botswana, Lebanon,Jordan, UAE, Moldova, Hungary, Russia, Tanzania, Ukraine, Zambia, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia, Kyrgyzstan). By the end of 2013, GLC programs welcomed more than 1000 foreign participants in NW Ohio and organized visits for over 850 Americans to travel overseas.

GLC contributed to international education, introduced the foreign guests and programs at more than 520 multicultural public events with an overall impact on over 81,000 Americans in NW Ohio, and thousands of people and their families in Europe, Asia, Africa and other parts of United States (Indiana, Michigan, Illinois). We had a large emphasis on empowerment of women and contributing to the development of the youth locally and globally.

GLC has a wide network and direct impact on five counties (Lucas, Wood, Seneca, Ottawa, Sandusky) in NW Ohio attracting hundreds of volunteers and community partners to local and global activities.
