Several programs throughout the county use volunteers to transport the elderly, living in their homes but no longer able to drive safely, to medical appointments and other needs. Trips are pre-arranged several days in advance, as needed, agreeable with a volunteer. Volunteers choose how often they wish to be called. Flexible schedule!
Volunteers pick up residents at their home and transport them to appointments and home again:
- Steuben Coordinated Transportation is available to residents throughout Steuben County and they can request rides to local or long distance appointments. Volunteers are reimbursed mileage upon request.

Volunteers make a difference!
AmeriCorps Seniors of Steuben County provides opportunities for people ages 55 and over to make a significant impact in their communities through volunteering. Volunteers contribute anywhere from a few hours a month to over 40 hours a week serving in their communities. Opportunities to serve include volunteering at local hospitals and nursing homes, schools, food pantries, public safety programs, and other nonprofit agencies and organizations. RSVP staff assist volunteers in sharing their experience, abilities and skills for the betterment of the community and themselves. Volunteer orientation, on-site training, supplemental insurance (while on duty), and mileage reimbursement are free services available for RSVP volunteers.
