The Iowa Council for International Understanding has been a leader in providing interpretation and translation services in the state of Iowa for over thirty years. For the last ten years we have also teamed up with United Way to provide emergency interpretation services across the state of Iowa. These emergency services are made possible by an incredible network of volunteer interpreters who can be called upon to assist in a time of emergency. With over one hundred interpreters and translators fluent in nearly 40 languages and dialects, we have been able to help emergency room nurses, police officers, roadside assistance, individuals, and various other human service providers overcome linguistic barriers in a variety of emergency situations.
To meet the growing need for emergency interpretation services in our state we are currently looking to further market and expand our emergency interpretation services across the state. In order to do this, we must have a strong network of volunteer interpreters to ensure that we can respond to each and every emergency call we receive. Being a volunteer interpreter is a very minimal time commitment, and you will only be called upon for actual emergency situations. The only requirement we have for volunteer interpreters is that they are self-proclaimed bilingual and would be comfortable interpreting for any emergency situation. If you or anyone you know would be interested in signing up to become part of our network of emergency interpretation services volunteers, please complete our Volunteer Interpreter Application on the next page. Thank you very much for your time and for your willingness to serve our communities.
