Our mission is to enlighten and inspire people of all ages with an ever-growing internet archive of hero stories from around the world. Now more than ever, children, teachers, and parents yearn for messages of hope and courage to face the challenges that lie ahead. The MY HERO web site hosts thousands of stories of remarkable individuals written by children and adults alike. These stories serve to remind us that we all have the potential to overcome great obstacles and achieve our dreams by following in the footsteps of our heroes.

GROWTH OF THIS GLOBAL EDUCATIONAL PROJECT

Miilions of students from ovr 160 nations use The MY HERO Project in classroooms around the globe. Over 5000 educators access the MY HERO teachers room each month to use FREE lesson plans and resources for their students to successfully take part in this online interactive web project.

The MY HERO TEACHERS ROOM

This free, project-based learning resource has been
successfully integrated into curricula in grades 3-12, colleges,
and community-based education programs. Educators
incorporate MY HERO in character education, journalism,
thematic social studies and literature units, and use it as a
tool for reading comprehension and the development of
writing skills, graphic and creative arts, as well as computer
and media literacy.

The MY HERO SHORT FILM FESTIVAL

The Short Film Festival invites media
makers to create short digital movies and
share in the ancient ritual of storytelling
to honor heroes from around the world.

Using digital media tools to tell their own
powerful hero stories, students become
active participants in this age of global
communication. MY HERO accepts
submissions to the MY HERO Screening
Room in four categories: Narrative,
Experimental/Musical, Documentary and
Animation. Submissions of short films and
multimedia presentations are accepted on
an ongoing basis..

Wendy Milette, Director of the Short Film
Festival, was an elementary school teacher
who recently received her master's degree
from USC's Film School. She has created
lesson plans and a list of resources for the
online film festival to assist teachers and
students in creating short films. Wendy has
conducted workshops around the world
to encourage students of all ages to share
their hero stories on film with MY HERO.

THE MY HERO PROJECT GLOBAL EXCHANGE

In 2006 MY HERO was awarded a Cultural Arts Exchange Grant from the U.S. State Department Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs to introduce the MY HERO Web Site and media arts education skills to students, educators and artists in the Balkans, Senegal and Jordan.

In 2007 and 2008, as part of this arts exchange program MY HERO representatives traveled to Senegal, Jordan, Macedonia, Kosovo, Bosnia & Herzegovina, and Montenegro to conduct a series of video and media workshops for the MY HERO/GLOBAL EXCHANGE Project.

Additional support and in-kind donations for this project have come from the following organizations: Wacom, American Film Institute, University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts, Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences at the University of California Irvine, Forest City Enterprises Inc., Laguna College of Art, Big View Pictures, Inc., and Laguna Beach High School.

THE GLOBAL EXCHANGE brings media literacy and a voice to young people around the world who can then share their vision with this online educational journal. The GLOBAL EXCHANGE needs suppot to continue to bridge the DIGITAL DIVIDE and to bring not only the tools of technology but training to partners around the world to take part in producing and sharing HERO stories from around the world on myhero.com

MY HERO CELEBRATES LINCOLN's 200th BIRTHDAY

This special online celebration of ABRAHAM LINCOLN includes lesson plans and resources provided by the ABRAHAM LINCOLN PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND MUSEUM as well as work contributed by artists and historians.

Students and the public at large are invited to take part in a essay and art competition to honor someone who embodies the spirit of Lincoln today. "Looking for Lincolns of Today."

The Virtual Art Gallery encourages media literacy and the exploration of digital art by offering students and artists around the world an online venue to share their vision of heroism. The Gallery seeks original artworks that portray heroes, heroism, or heroic deeds in a variety of mediums, including animation, collage and assemblage, digital imagery, mixed media, painting, photography and film, printmaking, sculpture and video.

MY HERO SPANISH LANGUAGE WEB SITE

MiHeroe.org is a Spanish version of the MY HERO Web site that encourages cultural awareness and expands global participation on MY HERO. It is a valuable tool for building foreign language skills.
