Create a warm welcome for patients receiving end-of-life care and a lasting keepsake for their families. Join our Caring Crafters team to make gifts of comfort and color for our patients. We have a select group of Caring Crafters that create a wide variety of projects including: Activity Aprons, Bereavement Bears/Memory Pillows (made from a loved ones clothing items), Clothing Protectors, Twiddle Muffs, Weighted Blankets, Knitted Socks, Lap Blankets and Quilts (crocheted, knitted and sewn) etc.
While the majority of our Caring Crafter projects are focused on sewing, knitting or crocheted items; we occasionally offer expanded crafting opportunities.
We will send you an application and information packet. We provide each patient and family with the gift of a handmade 18x18 pillow cover. Caring Crafters construct these creative and beautiful covers and we provide the foam inserts. Guidelines for making the pillow covers are included in our New Volunteer packet once the application has been completed and returned. Caring Crafters who track the hours spent volunteering are invited to all in-service and recognition events and receive our quarterly newsletter.
Update - we currently have a surplus supply of general Pillow Covers. We are currently in need of small quilts and our other specialty hand-made projects. Specialty Pillow Covers and blankets will be requested as needed - i.e. Tigers baseball, Lions football, MSU, U of M etc. Plain White Pillow Covers are also of need for the creation of Memory Handprint pillow covers.
