CASA volunteers have a very unique role and possess the ability to change the trajectory of a child's life. Unlike attorneys and social workers, who are required to consider the parents’ or family’s interests, the CASA volunteer focuses solely on what is best for the child or children. One of the goals of CASA is to provide continual monitoring and advocacy for the child and be a stable and constant person in this child’s life.
A CASA volunteer provides a Judge with carefully researched background details about the child to help the court make a sound decision about that child's future. Each case is as unique as the child involved. The CASA volunteer determines what is in the best interest of the child. The CASA volunteer makes a recommendation on placement to the Judge and follows through on the case until it is permanently resolved. They often provide information on these critical cases that would not otherwise be available.
Our volunteers go through a 30-hour training series at our office located in Lexington. Training sessions are held throughout the year. Interested individuals must have a background checks completed through our application process, must be at least 21 years of age, and be willing to commit 2 years with our organization.
