CAREER AWARENESS PROJECT (CAP) DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR

The Preston Mitchum, Jr. (PMJ) Foundation is accepting candidates for a CAP Development Coordinator position. This person is the liaison between the Baltimore County School System, Baltimore City and our school coordinators.

Program Background CAP sessions are held once per week, after school. Twelve lucky students are selected every three months, which is a total of 36 students at each CAP school site. These students gain exposure to a variety of careers over the school year period through tangible instruction and field trips. During the after-school program, students are introduced to a difference career each week, participate in hands-on activities and attend field trips as a culmination of the session. The program offers students an overview of the educational and career choices necessary to succeed in the featured careers.

Primary responsibilities include:  Verify that school coordinators are completing documents, adhering to CAP program guidelines

 Communicate with the PMJ Foundation’s Executive Director/Founder as well as the CAP Assistant Volunteer.

 Develop new school contacts. In order to be successful in our mission of "presenting possibilities for brighter futures", it is imperative that we expand the CAP program to as many schools in the greater Baltimore area as possible. CAP has seen great success since its implementation in 2006 with at-risk youth. Your advocacy is contagious and you can help make a positive difference in our communities!

 Submit detailed invoices for administrative support, stipends for Career Representatives and funding for snacks and other miscellaneous items.

The foundation is hoping to secure a volunteer for this position, but can offer a small stipend. Currently, the position has required approximately 15 hours over a two to three month period. This is a great opportunity for on-the-job experience with a local non-profit in addition to enhancing your resume. Individuals must have excellent interpersonal skills, have reliable transportation and a dedicated work ethic.

If this sounds like an exciting and fulfilling position to you, please e-mail Preston Mitchum, Jr. at prestonmitchumjr@aol.com. We look forward to having you on our team and changing the vision of our future!
