James House is part of the Greater Richmond Hotline, and that means that we are responsible for staffing the hotline 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Volunteers serve as hotline backup and help facilitate resources for callers in crisis, including shelter. Crisis Hotline Specialists offer emotional support and information to survivors (and their families/friends) when in crisis. This form of crisis intervention by telephone may result in and include companion services for people who have experienced sexual or domestic violence (and their families) to hospitals, police stations, and other service providers. Hotline shifts may be done in the office duing business hours or after hours outside of the office.
