- The Alpine Area Agency on Agency Ombudsman Program is a voice for older adults in long-term care facilities (nursing homes and assisted living residences). Residents of these facilities have specific rights regarding their care. An Ombudsman is an advocate for these rights.
Volunteer ombudsman serves residents of long-term care facilities. Ombudsman may also assist residents' family and friends, but the primary role of the ombudsman is to carry out the wishes of the resident. Ombudsman may also work with the facility and staff to resolve problems and address issues that affect residents.
Volunteer ombudsman will:
- Visit assigned nursing homes or assisted living residences.
- Assist in the resolution of residents' concerns.
- Educate residents, family, staff and the public about the Ombudsman Program and Resident Rights.
Volunteers with the Alpine Area Agency on Aging Ombudsman Program will serve in Eagle, Grand, Jackson, Pitkin, and Summit Counties. At present, long-term care facilities are only available in Grand and Pitkin Counties; however, other counties are in the planning process to develop these facilities.
