International Voluntary Service Exchange ~ Volunteers for Peace is a non-profit membership organization that offers placement in over 3000 volunteer projects in more than 100 countries. VFP also organizes 50-60 service projects in the United States each year. We exchange volunteers with our international partners, who organize the projects taking place in their own countries.

Educational and Fun ~ Volunteer projects bring peple from four or more countries (no more than 2 volunteers per country) together in a cooperative effort to live, work and have fun. Volunteers leave the project with a strong sense of achievement, creating friendships that overcome cultural differences. They are a great way to volunteer abroad.

Short-Term Placements ~ We specialize in 2-3 week placements, but also offer medium and long term placements. We offer projects for teens, adults, seniors and families. There are a wide variety of volunteer service projects available that arise from a grassroots level. From sustainable agriculture to environmental protection, helping the elderly and orphans, to preserving archaeological sites.

Affordable ~ VFP's basic placement fee is $350 for a multi-week placement. This includes food, accomodation and work matierals. Volunteers arrange and pay for their own transportation. In developing countries, there are additional fees payable upon arrival that vary depending on the hosting organization. We offer a refund of $50 in most situations where volunteers have to pay an extra fee.

Mission Statement

Volunteers For Peace (VFP) organizes, promotes and supports voluntary service opportunities in the USA and abroad as an effective means of intercultural education, service learning, and community development. VFP empowers host communities to work cooperatively for environmental sustainability, social justice, and peace. VFP provides opportunities for volunteers to develop leadership skills and global connections. We advocate for civic engagement and encourage volunteers to apply their new skills as citizen diplomats, community activists and global leaders.

Description

Volunteers For Peace is a non-profit organization, founded in 1982, that offers placement in over 3,000 voluntary service projects in more than 90 countries. Each year we provide almost 1,000 volunteers with invaluable opportunities to strengthen their ability to communicate in diverse groups, explore grassroots leadership opportunities, and build cultural understanding and connections around the world.

VFP offers short-term projects and individual service adventures for adults, teens, seniors, families and groups. All projects arise from grassroots, community based need. Volunteers should be prepared to work about 5 hours a day and self-select the type of work that interests them. Work ranges from environmental to teaching English, building schools to preserving historical sites, assisting with festivals to agriculture, and so much more. Project length can vary from 2-3 weeks up to 2-3 months.

VFP's placement fee is always $500 ($650 if you are under 18 years old) and must be paid at the time of registration. (If we can’t place you we refund the full fee!) Your registration covers placement, food, accommodation and work materials for your program. Volunteers arrange and pay for their own transportation to and from the project. Projects taking place in the developing world often require an additional fee in the range of $50-$500 payable to our partners upon arrival.
