Mission Statement

Mi Escuelita Preschool teaches English to children from all cultures and prepares them for academic success.

Description

Mi Escuelita Preschool is an early childhood program dedicated to teaching English and developing early learning skills to at-risk children of all cultures for preparation towards a successful school experience. A non-profit organization located in Dallas, Mi Escuelita provides a unique service to low-income families with children considered to be "at-risk." While remaining strongly dedicated in the preservation of each child's cultural heritage, Mi Escuelita's primary focus is to provide a safe, secure and nurturing environment where non-English speaking children of preschool age are taught the English language, pre-reading, literacy and social skills necessary to have a successful experience in both school and life. Mi Escuelita was among the first early childhood centers to be accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) in 1987 as well as to utilize the developmentally appropriate materials and activities as recommended by the NAEYC. Fully licensed by the state of Texas, Mi Escuelita is classified as a four-star (highest ranked) designated vendor with Child Care Management Services and a Cornerstone Model School with Educational First Steps, Inc. Mi Escuelita works in partnership with Head Start of Greater Dallas and is an affiliate agency of United Way of Metropolitan Dallas. Since it was founded in 1978, Mi Escuelita has grown to six centers throughout Dallas. Last school year 504 children were enrolled in the day long program. In addition to the valuable education the students receive at Mi Escuelita, the program also provides children with health and dental screenings, vision screenings, nutritional services, speech therapy and behavioral assessment and other assistance if required.
