Supermarketing for Seniors is looking for volunteers to shop for groceries for home-bound Greenwich seniors.
Volunteers call ahead of the shop for the grocery list, which gives the senior a friendly outlet for connection. The day of the shop they stop by to pick up the client's funds, then shop and return with groceries. All in-person interactions are done from a safe distance following CDC guidelines and without entering the client's home.
This position is as much about the relationship that develops as it is about the groceries. Anything shoppers notice that indicates there might be further services needed by the client are reported to program staff for follow up, so we can further serve or advocate for them.
Shopping schedule is set between volunteer and client; shopper emails monthly summary confirming dates they shopped.
Volunteers must submit to a background check, have checkable references, as well as a valid drivers license and up-to-date insurance on their car.
Requirements will shift as the situation evolves; training and support provided.
