Compassionate companions is a new program initiate by Jewish Family Services of Greenwich designed to provide door-through-door assistance for seniors, and adults with identified disabilities to NON-EMERGENCY medical appointments.
Companion will arrive at clients home and via car service (ie, Uber or Lyft) escort the client to their medical appointment, wait with them, and escort them back to their residence.
This program will ensure that our clients have the ability to attend their prevention and maintenance medical appointments, with a companion for support.
Volunteers will have the ability to choose appointments via a calendar schedule
This position is as much about the relationship that develops as it is about the escort. Anything companions may notice that indicates there might be further services needed by the client, please report to program director for follow up, so we can further serve or advocate for them.
Schedules will fluctuate- mostly daytime and afternoon availability needed. Companions will report directly to clients home for pick up and drop off.
Volunteers must submit to a background check, have checkable references, as well as a valid drivers license and up-to-date insurance on their car.
Requirements will shift as the situation evolves; training and support provided.
