Mail-Away Family Literacy Volunteer
The Adult Literacy League serves our adult students with young children through our Read to Me! program which provides book and activity kits for the families to engage with each other and build a home library. For students who do not attend classes at our Michigan St. office, we send kits through the mail.
Our Mail-Away Family Literacy Volunteers receive families’ response sheets and postcards and send their next book kit out in the mail. Each family has their own folder which documents their history with the program and what books/supplies they need. Volunteer will learn to use our postage meter to prepare kits for mailing and should be comfortable following up with families on the phone.
Volunteer time is 1-2 hours a week; consistent volunteer day/time is preferred.
