About

Volunteer to Help Bring Millions of Dollars to the Community

A Few Fun Hours Could Mean Thousands of Dollars to Someone You Know

Louisville Asset Building Coalition (LABC) offers Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) to help working and low income individuals/ families save money by preparing their tax return for free and making sure they claim all their available tax credits. An estimated $26 Million dollars goes unclaimed in Louisville each year from just the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the typical savings from tax preparation fees can be from $100 - $400! Since our start in 2001 we have helped bring back over $25 Million Dollars to our community, this past year we served over 5000 families with the strong support from community volunteers.

By volunteering your time during the tax season we will increase our capacity to serve more eligible families. As we expand our services to the Southwest community your support is more critical than ever

NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED ▪ FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE

No Experience Necessary - LABC has a national partnership with the IRS to provide easy training for all volunteers. You can volunteer for many non-tax positions too. Check out all the roles below.

Tax Preparers - While some volunteers have experience in accounting or tax law, anyone can learn to be a tax preparer - you just need to be comfortable with a computer and basic numbers. Our comprehensive training (just two sessions) will get you certified for the basic tax law and automated software. We will always have experienced site coordinators to help you.

(CPAs can even qualify for CPE credits).

Site Support - A VITA Site requires many great volunteers to help it be successful and running to serve all the people. If you love helping people and putting on a friendly smile but worried about learning basic tax stuff, this is a great way to get involved. We need volunteers to help make sure filers have all the correct documents, confirm information and answer basic questions.
