Want to join a team of volunteers who donate their time and energy to bring companionship to older adults residing in Buncombe County?

Socializing with Seniors (SWS) is a service through the Council on Aging of Buncombe County that is designed to relieve loneliness and feelings of isolation by bringing the companionship of volunteers to persons who are restricted to their homes and often lack the support of family and friends.

SWS Volunteers are paired with an area senior who shares similar interests and goals. Activities can include sitting to chat, cooking or crafting together, playing board games, taking trips into the community, shopping, movies and more.

Volunteers do not provide personal care or cleaning services.

Visits are scheduled directly between the volunteer and participant and reporting is done via Google Drive so there is a high level of flexibility.

Description

The Council on Aging (COA) is a nonprofit organization that provides services to individuals age 60 and older. COA provides personal, caring support and assistance with the challenges of growing older. We provide referrals and help in learning the Medicare system, staying healthy and independent at home, and support for caregivers.
