Mission Statement
Habitat for Humanity Choptank works in partnership with God and all people to transform communities and the lives of qualifying families in Dorchester and Talbot Counties by building simple, decent and affordable homes.
Description
Since its founding in 1992, Habitat Choptank has made homeownership a reality for 57 families. Relying on volunteers, financial donations, and material contributions, each Habitat home is the result of a unique partnership among a deserving family, dedicated volunteers, community partners, and inspired donors. While Habitat for Humanity affiliates are known for their construction of simple, decent and affordable homes, that vision has grown to include the construction of sustainable energy efficient homes.
As a nonprofit organization, Habitat Choptank strives to not only build homes but also to collaborate with all people interested in the quality of life in the two county region through the creation of affordable housing opportunities. Talbot and Dorchester counties are home to many low income working families who are unable to buy a home due to the high land and construction costs, as well as a shortage of affordable housing. Habitat Choptank works in partnership with low income families to provide housing opportunities to end the cycle of poverty.
Habitat for Humanity affiliates work locally in communities to select and support homeowners, organize volunteers and coordinate house building and repair. Homeowners are selected based on their need for housing, their ability to repay a mortgage and their willingness to work in partnership with Habitat. Habitat for Humanity does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, ethnicity or any other characteristic.
