Our Vigil Volunteers are a group of individuals who provide a comforting presence to our actively dying patients and their family members and/or friends. They aim to fulfill the mission that, "no patient should die alone." Tending to people at the end of their lives is a special privilege. Simple caring and compassion are two main ingredients of what is needed to become a Vigil Volunteer. We do not require our volunteers to go outside of their own community for their assigned visits.

AseraCare Hospice serves to focus our available resources to meet the emotional, spiritual and physical needs of our patients and families with a sense of compassion and dignity. We express this through ongoing gentle acts of kindness and sympathy. We preserve the dignity of death for our patients and families by making pain management, comfort and quality of life our primary goals. AseraCare Hospice believes that through compassionate support and the promotion of a caring environment, patients and families may be able to attain a degree of mental and spiritual preparation for death that is satisfactory to them.
Our volunteers commit to enhancing our patients' and families quality of life by providing various services. We strive to help our patients remain as independent as possible for as long as possible, in familiar surroundings. Volunteers are integral to the hospice team. Volunteers provide both direct and indirect services. We encourage use of time and talent to enhance patient, family and volunteers' lives. Training and orientation is offered to all incoming volunteers at various levels.
If you are a surviving family member, we encourage you to wait a minimum of one year following the patient's death to serve as a direct care volunteer or in public relations activities.
