The Collections Assistant for The Orange County Regional History Center supports the Collections
Department activities and staff in achieving established organizational goals. This position is responsible
for successfully supporting the full range of activities required to care for the Historical Society of
Central Florida’s collection . Under the guidance of the Collections Manager, volunteer will handle all
materials according to standard museum practices. Collections Assistants are ambassadors of the
museum and its mission. They are colleagues of the museum staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with the processing of collection materials
Work on collection inventories
Assist with research requests
Digitize historical documents and photographs
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Age 18 years with High School Diploma
Commit to volunteering minimum 2 shifts per month
Basic knowledge of archival care and handling
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
Possess verbal and written communication skills
Detail oriented and organized
Able to work independently

Description
The Orange County Regional History Center is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution and a member of the American Alliance of Museums. The History Center includes a museum in a historic courthouse, the collection of the Historical Society of Central Florida, the Joseph L. Brechner Research Library, and Heritage Square park. It advances its mission through wide-ranging programs, permanent and traveling exhibits, and limited-run exhibitions from other prestigious institutions.
